Learner memory across courses

Memory Engine

Information you can reuse across courses

Let a later course remember what a learner chose or wrote. You decide what to keep and where it can be reused. SlideMind keeps it for each learner and returns it when another activity asks.

Start with one activity in your own course.

SlideMind carries a notebook of learner context from one course to the next.

A look inside

Discover Memory Engine

How it remembers

What the engine keeps, and what it gives back.

Set by you in SlideMind

  • What to keep

A goal, a choice or an answer worth bringing back, and the courses where it can be used.

Sent by your course

  • What the learner chose or wrote

Saved for that learner, whom your LMS recognises from one course to the next.

Memory Engine

Keeps the latest value for each learner, encrypted.

  • Back in another course

Your next course can show it or use it to choose what comes next.

  • Context for AI

Feedback or a conversation can build on what the learner said before.

  • Information you control

Consult, export or delete what is kept for each learner.

Saving and retrieving a value do not require an AI model. You choose which information to keep; memory does not infer a learner profile or decide their next activity.

From one activity to the next

One goal, two courses.

Two separate Storyline courses, in the same SlideMind workspace and learning management system (LMS). The same learner returns; you have configured their practice goal to be available in both courses.

Course 1 · Prepare a conversation

Storyline

Your practice goal

Choose a practice goal.

What aspect of your conversations with colleagues would you like to work on?

Your answer

I want to ask for more specific feedback on my work.

Course 2 · Reflect on your practice

Storyline

Reflect on your practice.

In the previous course, you set this goal:

I want to ask for more specific feedback on my work.

Think of a recent conversation. What did you do to work towards this goal? What could you try next time?

A deliberate choice

Choose what is worth keeping.

Start with a detail a later activity will use. Each option is one you turn on: nothing is recorded automatically.

  • A choice or a goal

A goal, a role or an experience level chosen in your Storyline course.

    No AI needed
  • A Q&A answer

What the learner wrote and, if you choose, the AI feedback on it.

    No extra AI request
  • A Chat conversation

The exchange between the learner and the character, ready for a later activity.

    No extra AI request
  • An AI summary

A few sentences that keep what the learner said about their situation, goals and commitments.

    One more AI request

Information is kept only when your LMS identifies the learner. Otherwise, the activity works normally and nothing is saved.

With or without AI

Reuse a saved answer or goal.

  • Bring a goal back into view.

Display the saved goal beside a reflection prompt you have written, as in the two-course example above.

  • Apply your branching rules.

Retrieve an experience level and use the conditions in your authoring tool to show an introduction or further practice. You define the rule.

  • Give AI a useful detail.

Give Dialogue Engine a saved answer or goal to guide its feedback or conversation. This sends an AI request: the selected model receives your instructions and generates a response.

From intention to integration

Bring memory into your learning design.

Memory Hub is the area in SlideMind where you manage saved learner information. Define what to keep and in which courses it can be reused, then connect your activities.

In Storyline, from one course to the next

A goal, a role or an answer chosen in one course comes back in the next one, in your text or your branching. SlideMind prepares the code to add to your course.

Explore the Storyline integration

Publish both courses in the same LMS, so it recognises the same learner. The documentation covers each step of the setup. Read the documentation

Practical questions

Before you build.

Does learner memory need AI?

No. Saving and retrieving information do not require an AI call. The example on this page combines a saved value with a fixed reflection prompt. AI summaries and Dialogue Engine responses do use a model and consume AI usage.

What connects the information across courses?

The same learner, recognised by the same LMS, in the same SlideMind workspace. A matching name or email displayed in two different systems is not enough.

Is this the same as resuming an LMS course?

No. Your LMS manages progress, scores and completion for each course. SlideMind carries selected information, such as a written answer or a choice, from one course to another. It does not replace your LMS.

Can I keep a conversation too?

Yes. A Chat activity can keep the conversation and, if you choose, a short AI summary of it. Saving the text does not mean the widget automatically reopens at the same point in the conversation.

What if nothing has been saved?

Plan a question for a first visit, as in the example above. SlideMind does not invent a missing value.

Is memory included in Discovery?

Yes, with up to three memory variables and 50 learners. Starter, Pro and Agency include full Memory Engine.

Where is this information kept, and who can see it?

Saved values are encrypted, hosted in Québec, Canada, and associated with the learner in your workspace. The workspace owner can consult, export and delete a learner’s values. The organisation offering the course decides what to collect and how to inform learners.
